Munches....

Mr. J in the past week has just started displaying the readiness to start eating solid foods. We have brought him with toys with his high chair to the table and let him chill out with us while we eat. Last week, he started to fuss because we were not sharing, so we started him out with a few easy foods.

First up was avocado.

He seemed to really like this, although J had a hard time grasping it because it is so squishy, soft and mushy. I ended up mashing a little of it on to my finger and feeding him that way and that didn't seem to slow him down much. He made some "mmm"-ing enjoying it noises while eating which were quite entertaining.

Of course, I also should mention Milton - he sure isn't stupid. He realized quickly things were flying off the high chair and took a seat accordingly. At least, we don't have to clean the floor.

We also quickly learnt that whatever clothing J was wearing would be absolutely covered with what he was eating so that a bib is necessary, and/or the outfit needs to be short sleeved!

We gave J some rice cereal but he didn't seem to like it too much, but this may have been because I mixed it with water. We may try breastmilk or formula next time.

Yesterday we tried homemade crockpot applesauce for the second day in a row. My mother-in-law reminded me we should really just give him one item for several days, so this was day two for applesauce. He did fine for Day One, but he seems to have developed a rash around his mouth today so I may not use this again tomorrow.
My mother reminded me on the phone of the smaller spoons she had given me that used to be mine so we practiced with that.... yeah.... still some work to do, but we had several times where Daddy handed him the spoon upside down where he licked it off.

Shortly thereafter, J tried out the new bathtub. The spout on it currently is huge so the water splashed into the tub and this was deemed very amusing!
